Rachel R. Benson, BSW
Rachel R Benson BSW Addiction Specialist Suboxone CounselorRachel Benson is our Rehab and Counseling Director. She oversees our program and personally handles each and every client that walks into our office wishing to receive Suboxone treatment. Addiction rehabilitation is a very personal mission for Rachel as she has seen firsthand the depths an addiction can take a person as well as the triumphs and personal goals attainable after treatment is sought and completed. Rachel truly understands each and every struggle an addict faces within the grasps of an opiate addiction.
Rachel grew up in Richmond, VA and moved after high school to Athens, GA where, after several years of world exploration, she settled to further her education. Rachel graduated in 2008 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors in Social Work degree after working for many years in the field within the realms of School Social Work and Addiction Recovery. She has been working since in Gatlinburg at First Med as a Nurse and Counselor after moving to the area upon marrying a local, Dr. Craig C. Benson, another member of our Suboxone Center team.

Craig C. Benson II, D.O.
Craig C Benson II DO Suboxone PhysicianDr. Craig Benson is one of our two physicians prescribing Suboxone, our medication aiding in the treatment of opiate addiction. Dr. Benson was born in Gatlinburg and is a homegrown local boy dedicated to serving and treating the wonderful people of Sevier County and its neighbors. After graduating from Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, Dr. Benson went to the University of Tennessee followed by West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for his doctorate degree. Afterwards, he re-payed our great country with four hard-earned years in the United States Navy where he was stationed in both Jacksonville, NC and Athens, GA. Additionally, Dr. Benson spent 7 months at each location (for a total of 14 months) deployed serving our country in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
While in Athens, GA, he met, fell in love with, and proposed to Rachel, our Suboxone Center Director, and brought her to Gatlinburg to begin working at First Med with Dr. Robert Maughon, our other Suboxone Center physician. Dr. Benson and Rachel now have three girls, Kait - age 13, Aubree - age 5, and Kiele - age 4.

Robert "Mickey" M. Maughon, M.D.
Robert "Mickey" M. Maughon, M.D. is the owner and Medical Director of First Med Family Medical Centers. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He graduated Medical School from University of Tennessee Memphis and studied Internal Medicine at Tulane University, New Orleans. He is a member of American Medical Association, a member of American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of Tennessee Medical Association . He has practiced medicine in Gatlinburg for the last 23 years.
Dr. Maughon, in his free-time (what little there is) is quite a novelist and has published four novels to date; Bell Witch, Elvis is Alive, Elvis Returns, and New Orleans ER, all of which are available on Amazon.  The novel, Bell Witch, was also recently premiered in China as a Feature Film adaptation.  Dr. Maughon has one other love, his dog, Coco, a cute little Pomeranian.  She loves to come to the office dressed to impress and provide her own brand of important medical care by lifting the spirits of all staff and patients and providing many smiles and laughs along the way.  An avid technology enthusiast, Dr. Maughon hired his protégé, Dr. Benson, as the sole other physician within the now five location practice via text message in the Spring of 2009 and has never looked back.  He hired his wife, Rachel Benson, in the summer of 2011.  The practice continues to grow and thrive especially with the addition of the First Med Suboxone Center.
